Academician Šetrajčić was born on April 7, 1951, in Novi Sad (Vojvodina, Serbia). He completed his undergraduate studies in Physics at the Faculty of Sciences, University of Novi Sad in 1974. In 1985 at the Faculty of Sciences, University of Novi Sad he defended his PhD thesis in Theoretical Solid State Physics.

Prof. Šetrajčić has been working at the Department of Physics, Faculty of Sciences, University of Novi Sad, since 1975. Until 1987 he worked as a Teaching Assistant, 1987–1992 as an Assistant Professor, 1992–1996 as an Associate Professor and since 1996 he is working as a Full Professor.

He became a member of the Academy of Sciences and Arts of the Republic of Srpska in 2004.

Throughout his career, Prof. Šetrajčić has been teaching General Physics, Mathematical Physics and Biophysics courses and various courses related with Theoretical Physics and Material Science.

During this period he supervised over 70 BSc theses, seven MSc and nine PhD theses.

His field of research is Theoretical Condensed Matter Physics with particular interest in superconductivity and properties of bounded and layered crystal structures and structures with broken translational symmetry as well as in nanostructure specificities modeling. During the last 30 years he has over: 410 published scientific and professional papers, 420 conference reports and participated as a co-author/contributor in 40 scientific monographs as well as in 50 books. Hi is member of the editorial board of two scientific journals.

From 2008 he is a member of the European Commission for evaluation and monitoring of FP-7 projects, and since 2001 to 2014 he was a member of the National Council of the Slovenian Minority.

As a researcher (participant and/or manager) he participated in 20 research projects (12 projects were of international type). At present he is participating in three national and two international projects.
