Nenad L. Ignjatović was born on October 12, 1967, in Smederevska Palanka, Serbia. He received the BSc degree in 1994, the MSc degree in 1996, and the PhD degree at the Faculty of Technology and Metallurgy, University of Belgrade, in 2001. He was elected a Research Associate in 2002 and a Senior Research Associate in 2005. Nenad Ignjatović has been holding the position of Professor at the Medical School of the University of Niš since 2007. Dr. Ignjatović was elected a Principal Research Fellow in 2010. He became a corresponding member of the Academy of Engineering Sciences of Serbia in 2012.
He was a member of the organizing committee of YUCOMAT Conferences between 1997 and 2008; since 2008, he has been a member of the Presidency of the Materials Research Society of Serbia. Between 2002 and 2012, he was the President of the Organizing and Scientific committees of the annual MRS-Serbia young researchersć conferences "Science and Engineering of New Materials".
While working at the Faculty of Forestry in 1995/96, his research was focused on obtaining wood glue from bio-sources, which resulted in a patent for which he was awarded a gold medal by the Yugoslav Society of Inventors and Innovators in 1997. Since March 1997, until the present, he has been employed at the Institute of Technical Sciences of the Serbian Academy of Sciences and Arts as a researcher in the area of materials science. His research activities have been focused on the development of the relatively new scientific discipline within materials science: biomaterials. He was awarded for the best PhD thesis in 2001 by the Belgrade Chamber of Commerce.
Since 2001 until the present, he has been a visiting lecturer at the Petnica Science Centre on knowledge innovation programmes for young talents in the area of biomaterials, introduced in 2001 as a new research discipline. He was an Academic Visitor at Oxford University, Department of Materials, in 2005. In 2007, he was a member of the ACS Adriatic Delegation of the United States. Based on achieved results in the area of biomaterials, namely in bone tissue reconstruction, he received the Belgrade City Award for natural and engineering sciences in 2008. He was a national expert of bio-nano sciences in the centre of the European Commission (JRC, Italy) in 2013. and 2014.
He is also the editor of eleven conference proceedings and a co-editor of an international monograph. As an author or coauthor, he published more than 300 bibliographic resources falling into various categories (ISI and non-ISI publications); out of them, 72 can be found in SCOPUS database and they have been cited more than 1000 times (h=15). He is a reviewer for Materials Letters, Arabian Journal of Chemistry, The Scientific World Journal, Colloids and Surfaces B, Journal of Polymer Science Part B: Polymer Physics, Acta Biomaterialia, Journal of the European Ceramic Society, Processing and Application of Ceramics, Applied Surface Science, Journal of Prosthodontics, Materials Science Forum, Journal of the Serbian Chemical Society, Materials Chemistry and Physics, Journal of Materials Science: Materials in Medicine, Archive of Pharmacy, Environmental Engineering and Management Journal , BioMed Research International etc. He is a member of the Editorial Board of the Journal of Applied Chemistry andTehnika – Novi materijali (Technichs – New Materials).
